Precise prototypes play a decisive role in the development of rubber articles. Designers are often faced with challenges: Does the geometry fit? Does the component meet the mechanical requirements? Is the material suitable for the planned application? Answers to these questions are provided by realistic samples that enable a well-founded assessment – without the need for costly tooling in advance.
In this specific application, we were able to help a customer develop a customized sealing profile for a mounting rail. A standard profile could not be used due to the dimensions and the special requirements for the elastomer, the material had to be certified according to a fire protection standard. Due to our diverse possibilities in the mechanical processing of elastomers, such as water jet cutting or cutting by plotter, it was possible to sample different geometries. This applied equally to the selection of a suitable material, in this case an EPDM, and the determination of the Shore hardness of the sealing profile. With the help of the information gathered, the customer was able to determine the most suitable variant for his application.
